Common sense dictates that most people should visit job search websites or job boards, in order to find a suitable position. However, if there’s one thing we’d recommend people to keep a lookout for, it is scammy job ads, advertising false positions. Some pointers to keep in mind when looking out for scammy job ads are:

Ads written in bad English: As recruiters who write their own ads, trust us when we say that a legitimate recruiter will not publish a job advertisement riddled with spelling and grammatical errors.

“Work from home” schemes: Due to the Covid-19 outbreak, some offices out there might allow its employees to work from home. But these “ work from home” schemes are generally not practiced on new employees. Do your due diligence and enquire properly.

General lack of information: Lack of information or contradictory information might also signal the dubious nature of the job advertisement.

Other than finding second-hand bargains, Carousell is actually a notable place to find jobs online. In fact, recruitment companies like BGC Singapore sometimes advertise on websites such as Carousell. Other similar websites you can look out for job ads include Gumtree and even Craigslist.
One major downside of using websites like Carousell and Gumtree is that the jobs posted on these websites are not always reputable positions. Additionally, these positions cannot be vouched for by Gumtree, so there is a chance that the jobs advertised might be scammy. This is why it’s important to do your due diligence and read through the job ad thoroughly.

3. Social Media Websites
It is now increasingly common for recruitment agencies and companies to advertise their job ads on social media websites (i.e. Facebook, Instagram). Thanks to Facebook jobs, LinkedIn is now not the only social media website for you to job hunt with. There are two ways to hunt for a job on Facebook:

Visit Facebook’s job search page: This allows you to find opportunities that have been posted online by different organizations. Click here for more information.

Facebook pages: Some recruitment companies and organizations advertise their roles on the company’s Facebook page. Head on straight to the Facebook page of your choice and click apply on their job’s section.
Additionally, some organizations might take their hiring methods a step further and advertise for multiple positions on Instagram as well. It takes a bit of sleuthing, but it’s definitely worth your time!

Facebook groups: As a millennial or a gen z individual, it should not come as a surprise to you that there are multiple Facebook groups available for every interest out there. But anytime you’re scrolling through Facebook to catch up on your friends' statuses, why not check out a few job search groups out? It could be worth your time!
Pro-Tip: If all else fails, consider job searching on LinkedIn. There are a number of reputable positions listed out there for you. Alternatively, try making your profile more palatable to recruiters.
